Choosing Lamps For Your Home

Lighting plays a vital role in the overall appearance of an area. Lighting can make a small or a narrow room look bigger and can create a warm and a cozy feel for large, open areas. Proper lighting is very important to perform specific tasks as well as for safety and security reasons and it is quite simple and affordable.

Portable Lighting comes in many forms. They are plug-in lights designed to be placed around the home and moved at will, allowing flexibility in design.

Table Lamps are typically used as reading lights, to accent dark corners of a room, or used on an end table or buffet. They generally cast an omni-directional, unfocused light. Desk Lamps are specifically designed to illuminate a smaller area more intensely, such as desks or workspace areas. The light source should be placed about 15 inches above the surface of the desk.

Another type of lamps that can be used in homes are the armed lamps. These have adjustable arms so can be used to emit light in any direction. They can either be mounted in the wall directly or can be hard-wired or plugged in.

Floor lamps work as task lighting which can be used to perform the intended task like reading, sewing etc. These lights should be glare free. They are also used to light up the dark corners of a room. They will look good beside a sofa or a chair.

Torcheries are another portable fixtures. They direct the light upwards. They are multiple purpose lighting fixtures. They can be used for ambient, general and accent lighting and are more suitable for areas with higher ceilings.

Since task lighting is essential for reading or doing detailed work. A solid colored shade controls the direction of the light, allowing very little light to go upward, and a lot of the light stays filtered and focused down below.

Positioning of these lighting fixtures is very important. Place them in such a way that the light is not blocked by your head or shoulder.

The markets are flooded with a wide range of lighting fixtures, so it can be a bit tough to choose the most suitable ones as per the requirement and obviously every one will want to save their money as well. So, setting a rough budget will be helpful.

You should never compromise on the quality of the product. Never go for some lights just because they are cheap. So, it is always better to first do some good amount of research on the internet about the lights that you want to purchase. Also, you can make a list of some reputed manufacturers in your area. So, putting in a little time and effort will surely make you feel that ideal home lighting, after all, isnt that expensive and as tough to achieve as it seems!

So, think wise. Lighting your home is not that hard. All you need is to put in a little time and effort to select the right fixtures.

Writing a resume for the Web is like traditional resume writing; you need to focus on the job you want. When youre posting a resume online, you need to put yourself in the employers shoes, and make your resume match their needs. Looking at resume writing from the employers perspective will ensure that you write a resume that stands out and will prove you are the best for the position.

First impressions are crucial to online resume writing as it can often be the only impression you will make. Its sometimes best to post your resume to many different places to increase your options. Also, posting on big sites such as Hotjobs or Employment911 may not get you the results you want because of the huge databases of job seekers that are available. Therefore, it might be better for you to post your resume to smaller niche sites. In the end, online resume writing is just as simple as traditional resume writing, provided that you take the time to make your resume stand out.

This last aspect is crucial in any good curriculum because it is necessary to enable future practitioners to build lucrative businesses.

It is important for you to understand that you can create a resume which looks very professional right from your very own home office. Anyone with basic word processing software and a printer should not have to pay for someone else to create a resume for them.

Even those who have never created a resume before find they are able to design and write a really polished resume based on information available to them online and in books.

We will provide a few tips on how to make a resume that will get you the job you really want. Do not jump into the resume writing process until you know a little about the different formats out there. While we must stress there is no superior format but a resume that is not well formatted can cost you a job. Go ahead and use whatever format works best for you but make sure the potential employer will be able to easily read your resume and will not find it to be disturbing to the eye. This is critical because most potential employers will not even read a resume that is poorly formatted.

It is not enough to simply know how to make a resume but you also have to know how to get invited on an interview based on your resume. This is important because very few, if any, employers forgo the interview process. Your resume is the tool that gets you noticed but it is up to you to land the job when you go on the interview. If you really want to secure an interview, your resume needs to be up to the task. Your resume should also outline your most marketable features carefully.

Of course your resume also had to include valid contact information so the potential employer can call or email to invite you on the interview. So far you have learned a lot about resumes but you also need to know how to make a resume without making common errors. You probably already know you should proofread your resume several times to make sure there are no mistakes in spelling or grammar. Care should also be taken to make sure the resume is tailored for the job. Many job seekers make the mistake of submitting generic mistakes which do not really accentuate why they are the best candidate for a particular job.

The 1 GMAT Strategy You Need To Know

Many GMAT students mistakenly believe that focusing their study on math is the best strategy to raising their GMAT score.

Sure, if you have a known weakness in math youll need to brush up on your math skills and logic. And yes, the GMAT math is significantly more challenging than the SAT math (more emphasis on logic and structuring the problem rather than on pure calculation).

But at the end of the day, doing well on the VERBAL section is more influential to your total score than if you did equally well on the MATH section--this is ESPECIALLY true in the 700+ range. If you are targeting this score range, you MUST improve your verbal section.

So now you see a discrepancy between the two sections!

If you score 99th percentile in Verbal (49V), and your Quant score is

39M = 57th percentile = Total (730, 96th percentile)

41M = 63th percentile = Total (730, 96th percentile)

43M = 70th percentile = Total (740, 97th percentile)

Notice it does not matter how many correct answers this student can get on quant. In the end, her score is around the same score of 730 whether her math score is 39 or 43. Doing well in Verbal pays off!

Now is the opposite true? What if a student scores extremely well in Quant but mediocre in Verbal?

If you score 99th percentile in Math (51V), and your Verbal score is

30V = 57th percentile = Total (670, 85th percentile)

32V = 65th percentile = Total (690, 88th percentile)

34V = 70th percentile = Total (710, 92nd percentile)

Notice doing extremely well in quant does not guarantee you a good score. In fact, an mediocre score in the 57th percentile for verbal and a perfect quant score only give you a (670, 85th percentile). Doing well in Quant is good, but not as good as doing well in Verbal!

Let me repeat:

Doing well in Quant is good, but not as good as doing well in Verbal!

I can't believe this! A high quant score and average verbal score yields a LOWER score than a high verbal score and an average quant score!

Indeed, the GMAT is biased towards success on the verbal section!!

Why would the GMAT creators do this??

My best guess is just the fact that there is a flood of non-native English speakers from international countries who are taking the GMAT exam. These international students tend to be strong in quant but are less familiar with the idiomatic intricacies of the English language and inductive reasoning. Thus, putting weight on the verbal section can help prevent GMAT scores from going up (which is another trend that has been happening). This is only a guess at best. Nobody but the test makers can say for sure.

But whatever the TRUE reason is, it does NOT matter. What does matter is what this bias in the GMAT means to you. If your verbal abilities are not strong, then you MUST brush up on them.

"OK, I believe you. I need to improve my verbal score. But will studying necessarily improve my score?"

Yes and no. Depends on how you study. There are people who spend 6 months studying and do not see any improvements on their score. And then there are those (including me but also many others, Im sure) who scored in the 70th percentile and then studied for just 2 weeks and scored in the 98th percentile on the real thing.

You need to target your studying. There are 3 sections to the verbal: 1) Sentence Correction 2) Critical Reasoning 3) Reading Comprehension

By far, the easiest way to raise your score quickly is to ACE the Sentence Correction part of the exam. Its easier than you think. While the GMAT test makers have unlimited imagination in making questions for critical reasoning and reading comprehension, they can only test you on sentence correction in so many ways. If you master all possible TYPES of questions on the sentence correction AND VARIATIONS on those concepts, then you can go into the test with CONFIDENCE that you will ace the entire sentence correction part of the exam.

I strongly believe that ANYBODY can master the sentence correction section. You see, the GMAT exam is beatable. You just have to know how to do it without wasting your whole life on the test.

Do You Have A Recession Proof Job?

Daily we learn of more layoffs, more companies shutting their doors and ever increasing levels of unemployment. Those new to the workforce and longtime employees find the situation disconcerting. In today's job market, traditional employment is increasingly difficult to find, and landing the perfect job seems nearly impossible. The situation looks bleak, but there is hope for the job seeker.

Some industries continue to perform strongly. Others jobs, for one reason or another, perform better than before in this economy. It is jobs in these career fields that will lead to future business and job opportunities.

The biggest thing you have to consider is how to plan your education and choose a career path that is right for you and will work during a recession. There are some ways to recession-proof your career. You do this by focusing on the jobs that are stable even when the economy is on a downswing. For example, retail and entertainment is in a slump, but people always get sick, pay taxes, and consume energy regardless of the economy. The following careers should remain stable even during economic difficulty.

Teachers are always in demand. Our country is currently experiencing a shortage of good teachers. No matter what happens in the economy, children will still have to be educated and many adults return to school when they find themselves laid off or facing a career change. We always need teachers. The education of future generations depends on it, and, now, the ability of unemployed workers also depends on the availability of a good education. Teaching, therefore, is a good career move.

Another industry that remains unaffected regardless of the economy is healthcare. Advances in medication and longer life spans have created a greater need for specialized medical care for seniors. Health care administration is an information-driven career, which is appealing to those looking to move from information technology to a very stable career.

Auditors and accountants are always in demand and more so during a recession. Economic difficulties require businesses and individuals to monitor their expenses and books more carefully. They must also work to achieve greater tax deductions. Good accountants and auditors prove invaluable during a recession.

Energy consumption may decline during a recession, but it will never stop. This is true for other utilities as well. Careers related to utility maintenance and administration are stable options.

Healthcare is a long term necessity. As long as people need medication there will is a need for pharmacy techs and pharmacists. A career in pharmaceuticals a good choice.

Joining the military is also a good option. The military will stand regardless of the economy, especially during times of war. Some of the benefits of joining the military include housing and education subsidies in addition to pay. This makes the military a good career choice.

Security and law enforcement are good career considerations as well. Recession leads to increase in criminal activity. Security workers and police officers are in demand during a recession. This is a career choice that will continue to fair well following a recession, as well.

The Lifestyle of an International Consultant

1. How do salary, benefits, housing and perks compare with those of US consultants?

In general, you will have benefits that are fairly similar to those you would consider to be standard consulting perks in the US. You will be able to attend fashionable team and firm events, travel stylishly, and have an expense account.

Conversely, your bonuses and your pay might be less than you would receive in the US. Your perks might be fewer. For example, if you work for McKinsey's Asian offices, you will not be given a Blackberry until you make Engagement Manager Level.

If you are hired in the United States and relocate to your job, your international hire status will bring you some relocation benefits. For example, you might get a larger relocation bonus and be housed temporarily. Aside from that, your benefits would be the same as the locally hired consultants.

2. What kind of lifestyle can you expect? What hours will you work? What kind of social life is there?

Once again, a lot is dependent on the office and country you are working in. If you are in East Asia - Korea, Japan, China - you can expect to work harder. In Central America and Latin America - Mexico, Argentina, Brazil - you will find that your work day is shorter.

In each office, there are cultural issues that are of great importance. These will vary from office to office and country to country. For example, in Saudi Arabia, you cannot buy alcohol legally. So you can see that it is very important to research your chosen destination thoroughly before you ever apply. In this way, you can prevent embarrassing or disastrous errors.

What Are the Duties an International Consultant Can Expect?

1. Will the work differ from that done by a consultant in the US? Will you have more responsibility or less?

There are two general categories to be considered when consulting abroad. There is consulting in developed countries, like Japan and Western Europe, and there is consulting in emerging economies like the Czech Republic and Vietnam.

When consulting in a developed country, your work won't differ much from consulting in the US. You would find differences in your client base and the industries you would deal with. Also, your firm's strengths and reputation would add some variables.

In an emerging economy, your work might differ for several of reasons:

-Your clients may not be as sophisticated.

* There might be greater variety in the experience and quality of your partners and principals.

* Limited resources in your local office.

Management Consultants – Worst Mistake in Fit Interviews

The worst thing you can do is give bland, generic answers to the interview questions.

When you don't provide personalized stories and anecdotes, you are simply not making the extra effort to stand out with distinctly different responses.

To begin with, let's talk about anecdotes. If you are not a very good consulting interviewer, you will not give anecdotes. Look at this example:

Why do you want to be a management consultant?

I enjoy an intellectual challenge, and I like to work with smart ambitious people solving hard business problems.

Well, that's dull. There is certainly nothing special in that response. What's the story behind your desire to be a management consultant?

Can you see why this answer is really a problem?

If you tell a little story or an anecdote about why you want to be a management consultant, it will stick out in the interviewer's mind. If you just give a run of the mill, plain answer, it will just blend in with all the other run of the mill plain answers. You won't get a job offer, and neither will anyone else who answered that way.

At the end of the day, the consultants usually have a meeting to discuss all the applicants. If you said something that really stuck with your interviewer, you are likely to be discussed favorably. If you just gave a dull, unimaginative answer, your interviewer probably won't even think to mention you.

Here's how you can add an anecdote or a takeaway.

An anecdote would tell a story and draw a conclusion. It would tell the interviewer about something you have done and something you learned from it.

In the answer that was given, there was no takeaway. No conclusion was given.

So let's put in a takeaway, and you will see that just one sentence will make a big difference in the strength of the final response.

Why do you want to be a management consultant?

I love to work with smart, ambitious people facing intellectual challenges and solving difficult business problems. When I did my internship in asset management, I really enjoyed my smart, hard-working colleagues, but I did not feel challenged, myself. I think consulting will challenge me and give me the opportunity to work with people who will inspire me to do my best. I want to move up in the business world. I have come to realize that the best way to do that is to become a top member of a smart team and seek out the toughest challenges.
